The government is extorting billions of rupees daily from the people in the name of levy,” says Nasrullah Randhawa

On the appeal of Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, a protest demonstration was held in the federal capital, Islamabad, against life-threatening inflation. The protest was led by Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Nasrullah Randhawa. On this occasion, Zonal Nazim Wasiullah and Zonal Ameer Sardar Fahad were also present. A large number of Jamaat-e-Islami workers and citizens participated in the protest held at Tarnol and strongly demonstrated against the rising prices of oil, electricity, and gas.

Addressing the protesters, Nasrullah Randhawa said that the government has made the lives of the people miserable for the sake of its own luxuries. Millions of poor laborers and students use motorcycles daily and are forced to refuel at double the price. The government cannot collect taxes from feudal lords, chieftains (Waderas), and capitalists, so it is looting the pockets of the poor. He said that the government is plundering the hard-earned money of the people to favour oil companies. These oil companies belong to the favourites of ministers, advisers, and rulers. He said that the ex-price of petrol is 190 rupees per litre, but the government is selling it at more than double that price. The prices of petrol and electricity are the highest in the region. He said that there are dozens of IPPs (Independent Power Producers) that do not produce even a single unit of electricity, yet the government is cutting the people’s share and giving billions of rupees to the IPP owners.

Nasrullah Randhawa demanded from the Islamabad administration that the Metro Bus route be extended from Chungi No. 26 to Tarnol Ghati so that more citizens can benefit from this facility. He said that citizens of these areas also pay equal taxes and other dues, but they are being deprived of civic amenities. This attitude of the administration is extremely oppressive and condemnable.
