Protesters Demand Petrol Price Fixed at Rs. 225 Per Liter

ISLAMABAD, August 7, 2026 – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) organized a large protest sit-in at Motorway Chowk in the federal capital against inflation, the petroleum levy, and rising petroleum product prices. The protest was led by JI Pakistan Deputy Ameer Liaqat Baloch, Deputy Ameer Mian Muhammad Aslam, and JI Islamabad Ameer Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa.

The sit-in witnessed massive participation from citizens who arrived in cars, motorcycles, and on foot, expressing their anger over the government’s economic policies.

‘Protests at 510 Locations Nationwide’

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Ameer Liaqat Baloch stated that in response to the appeal of JI Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, protest sit-ins were being held at 510 locations across the country today.

He demanded that the government charge only the actual price of petroleum products, calling the collection of massive amounts through the levy a clear injustice. “The government must immediately abolish the petroleum levy and fix the petrol price at Rs. 225 per liter,” he said.

Baloch accused the rulers of using the IMF as an excuse to burden the people while refusing to reduce their own expenditures and luxuries. He reaffirmed that JI will continue its struggle for constitutional supremacy, rule of law, and the protection of public rights.

‘Inflation, Unemployment, and Taxes Have Made Life Miserable’

Deputy Ameer Mian Muhammad Aslam said that inflation, unemployment, and increasing taxes have made the lives of the people miserable. “The government has affected every segment of society through the petroleum levy, resulting in a continuous increase in the prices of essential commodities,” he said.

He reiterated that JI will continue to raise its voice on every democratic and constitutional forum for the legitimate rights of the people and will persist in its struggle until relief is provided.

‘Oppressive Economic System Will Not Last’

JI Islamabad Ameer Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa stated that the people have risen against the oppressive economic system. “The increase in petroleum product prices has pushed essential commodities beyond the reach of the common man, while approximately Rs. 150 per liter is being collected as petroleum levy – which is sheer oppression of the poor,” he said.

He demanded that the government immediately abolish the petroleum levy and take effective measures to provide relief to the masses from inflation. “The peaceful struggle of the people will surely succeed, and the oppressive economic policies cannot last long,” he declared.

‘Peaceful Movement Will Continue Until Demands Are Met’

At the conclusion of the protest sit-in, the speakers announced that JI’s peaceful public movement will continue until the resolution of public problems, the end of inflation, and the abolition of the petroleum levy.\
