Islamabad Bar Council Announces Support for JI’s Nationwide Strike Against Petroleum Levy on Sept 3

Legal Community Joins Public Movement for Economic Relief

ISLAMABAD, September 2, 2026 – The Islamabad Bar Council has announced its full support for the nationwide strike called by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) against the petroleum levy, scheduled for September 3.

In a statement issued by Vice Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council, Chaudhry Asif Irfan, Advocate Supreme Court, the legal body expressed solidarity with the public movement, declaring that the strike is in the public interest.

‘Heavy Taxes and Levy Causing Unbearable Inflation’

Chaudhry Asif Irfan stated that the heavy taxes and petroleum levy on petroleum products have led to continuous inflation, making it extremely difficult for the common man to make ends meet. “The government should provide immediate relief instead of burdening the people further,” he said.

He also highlighted that expensive electricity bills and issues related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have created severe difficulties for both the public and the business community. He called upon the government to review IPP contracts and take effective measures to provide affordable electricity to the people.

‘Lawyers, Traders, and All Segments Should Raise Their Voices’

The Vice Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council urged traders, lawyers, and other segments of society to raise their voices for the resolution of public issues.

“While announcing support for the September 3 nationwide strike, lawyers, traders, and other segments should raise their voices for the resolution of public issues,” he said.

The Bar Council’s endorsement marks a significant development in the growing alliance of civil society groups supporting JI’s movement against the petroleum levy and oppressive economic policies.
